CITY OF CANNING EQUIPMENT GRANT MEANS MORE GEAR FOR OUR PLAYERS!

This year the club applied for, and was successful in receiving, a $1,000 equipment grant from the City of Canning.  The grant has been used in purchasing new eskies for all our teams along with some new playing gear such as batting pads, thigh pads and gloves that have filtered into the match day gear throughout the grades.

The club would like to acknowledge the ongoing support provided by the City of Canning for community groups such as ours.  Though we sometimes butt heads with the council, we are nevertheless grateful for their support be it via grants, the provision of facilities or the assistance their staff provide us.  The council has the difficult task of trying to support the needs of community groups whilst at the same time ensuring the council’s obligations to the wider community are met.  From a club perspective, this obligation sometimes gets overlooked, so we cannot thank them enough for the support they provide us.

Our great club thanks you!

RIVERTON ROSTRATA CRICKET CLUB

MAKE BOTH THE FOURTH GRADE AND ONE DAY G GRAND FINALS!

Fourth Grade captain Richard Marshall and One Day G Grade skipper Simon Rosenow have lead their respective teams to an emphatic grand final berth for the 2014/15 SMCA season.

Over Saturday and Sunday, Riverton Rostrata’s Fourth Grade side beat Cockburn at Riverton Park by 4 wickets, securing a grand final spot for the second year in a row. The Rats held Cockburn to a very achievable 123 runs, with Wayne Fontana taking 5 for 28 and Shaun O’Shea securing 3 for 19 with the ball.

Cleto Piani got the lads off to a good start with a quick fire 44 runs opening the batting, and after a slight collapse in the middle order Wayne Fontana and Jeff Howard steadied the ship with 31 n.o. and 20 n.o. to seal the victory and in turn, a place in the Fourth Grade grand final.

Riverton Rostrata’s One Day G Grade played their semi-final away at Gwynne Park taking on Armadale. After Armadale won the toss and elected to bat first, which soon saw the Rat’s bowlers hold the opposition to 125, with Blake Scantlebury taking 3 for 20 off his 7 overs and Josh Scaddan-Blair securing 2 for 14 off his overs.

After the top order were removed cheaply, one of the Rat’s newest young gun all rounders Josh Scaddan-Blair once again came to save the day, smashing 64 runs to get the lads back into the game. Vetooshan Siritharan assisted at the end with 15 runs not out, keeping a cool head to ensure their gutsy season was not all in vein.

MENTAL AS ANYTHING COME ALIVE

ON A HUGE NIGHT FOR OUR CLUB

The Riverton Rostrata Cricket Club hosted ARIA Hall of Famers Mental As Anything on an incredible night that will forever hold a special place in our club’s rich history.

The club hosted these international superstars as part of our extensive fundraising drive in our quest to build our very own clubrooms at our current home ground, Riverton Park. Preceding the musical giants, the club’s very own Deadset took to the stage, performing a variety of songs ranging from well known popular rock ballads to a select range of great Australian treasures. if any performance was going to prepare a close to sold-out crowd for what was to come next, it was these gentleman.

Next, Mental As Anything graced the stage in order to perform to packed Bill Cole Function Centre at the Riverton Leisureplex. Performing all of their greatest hits including “If you Leave Me, Can I Come Too?”, “The Nips are Getting Bigger” and “Too Many Times”, creating an all out dance party.

For all who attended this hugely successful event, the Riverton Rostrata Cricket Club would like to extend their deepest gratitude for making it down to not only a highly entertaining performance from the ARIA Hall of Famers, but also by far our club’s most important event in our rich history.

RIVERTON ROSTRATA CRICKET CLUB

CROWNED THE 2013/14 SMCA

FOURTH GRADE PREMIERS!

After a valiant effort the Riverton Rostrata Fourth Grade XI have taken away the premiership flag after a victory over a competitive Willetton Crows outfit which saw the match truly go down to the wire.

Champagne’s for celebrating:  The photo of the day taken by Chris Anderton perfectly captures The 4th Grade boys in absolute elation after their emphatic victory over Willetton.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Fourth XI Rats hit the field fresh from their semi-final victory over Kwinana precisely a week prior. Richard Marshall and Liam Moldrich opened the bowling in blistering fashion, laying the pressure on the Willetton batsmen early in the piece.

Out to make an impression, Matthew Koenig snared an important wicket in the most devastating of fashion, demolishing the stumps with only his first ball of the day. The squad’s favourite all-rounder Brian Ogg was brought on as the second change, where his smash mouth style of bowling saw him roll through the middle order in partnership with Koenig.

The openers barely gave the Crows an inch throughout the day, as Marshall and Moldrich finished off the day with brilliant figures of 1/28 of 13 and 1/26 off 7 respectively. Matthew Koenig managed a fantastic 4 for 20 off 11, whilst Brian Ogg walked away with almost identical figures of 4 for 20 of 10. Riverton Rostrata took all ten wickets for 117 close to the end of the day’s play.

The loss of some early key wickets placed the Rats in a less than ideal position, though young opener Doug Paxton was still at the helm, determined to play his part in what would be an amazing achievement for the team. After a couple of more wickets fell Neil Worland came to the crease and contributed 21 with his attacking style of play, whilst Jeff Howard was looking to continue his run of form, notching an important 23.

After a quickfire performance from Liam Moldrich to bring the Rats within reach of the premiership flag, the skipper Richard Marshall and an unassuming hero in the form of Sharad Dhanawade were at the crease. Seeing off some high pressure bowling and picking off runs where possible, these two gentleman saw the lads come within two runs for victory. With his skipper down the other end, Sharad pulled away a short ball for 4 runs to earn the Riverton Rostrata 4th Grade XI the 2013/14 premiership flag in the most emphatic of circumstances.

With close to the entire club present on the day, the Riverton Rostrata clubrooms were sent into elation after this historic win for the club. After some well deserved celeabration out in the middle of the pitch, Willetton Crows Club President Rob Sims spoke to both teams in regards to the sportsmanship and sense of competition displayed across the two days, which was credit to not only both captains but to everyone involved in the match.

Umpire Graeme Cook then took to the stage to present the Best on Ground Award for the Grand Final. This medal is awarded to a player for their outstanding performance over the two days, as well as their conduct and influence on the day. After his tremendous spell of 4/20 on the first day of the final, the medal was awarded to Matthew Koenig.
